Elms

After a house renovation and extensive basement dig this much used and much loved garden needed reconstructing. The clients were keen for it to harmonise with their Victorian property and it’s tasteful modern additions, without looking brand new itself. This revised version of the space was to include a swing, large lawn and the one untouched part of the old garden, the play house.

The new structured layout gives them a variety of spaces in the garden for different uses.  The materials used reflect the original parts of the property whilst the clean lines are in keeping with the rear extension. We used materials such as riven Yorkstone paving and hand-picked reclaimed bricks to make sure the garden looked settled from the start.

A secluded terrace at the back of the garden incorporates a private dining area and the play house. The reclaimed brick raised beds help to screen this area and provide additional seating. Within these, a simple oak archway forms the swing. The lawn is edged with Yorkstone setts to give it a neat, crisp finish and generous borders give space to replace some of the colourful planting lost from the original garden.
