Chelsea Courtyard

We worked with architects Mackenzie and Temple to complete this compact courtyard garden in central Chelsea.  Previously a dark, dank outside space it was important to maximise the light coming into what would become a little oasis for this large family home.

Pale Limestone paving, mirrors and a subdued palette of colours are used to lighten and brighten, ensuring the space feels as spacious as possible. Dedicated planting beds leave the seating area clutter free, whilst softening the hard landscaping and providing some much needed greenery. Simple glass balustrades keep natural light flowing throughout and ensure it reaches the basement kitchen and living spaces.

The steps down to the lower level incorporate rendered planting beds to give a green outlook from the lower levels of the house. Chunky and generous built in hardwood benches provide a comfy area to relax and sun bathe or for casual dining and a variety of lighting fixtures throughout, make the most of the garden and it’s features after dusk.

It may be small but it’s certainly chic.
