Neighbourly Love

Now as someone who had a wonderfully religious upbringing I know very well not to covet my neighbours’ goods… Fortunately I don’t have to as my lovely neighbour to the right grows all sorts of things that creep over our boundary and look like they are mine anyway. And even better – she grows things that make my garden look good at this time of year when everything that is ‘technically’ mine is actually dead.. So thank you Valerie. Here are two of my favourite things of hers / mine…

First – I adore her Mimosa. Yellow is a controversial colour choice in gardens but actually – I quite like it. Particularly at this time of year. It provides such a welcome splash of colour and looks amazing on a winter anti cyclone day like today when the low sun shines right through it. Secondly – I love the clematis seed heads that get stuck in it and tumble into my garden. They are so cool – worth having a clematis just for the effect at this time of year. The flowers are an added bonus – and actually I don’t get to see those as she normally cuts the clematis in question right back in the spring. Maybe she is sick of me staring at her plants by then.
